Orthodontic treatments that use either Invisalign braces Manchester or clear braces in Manchester are just a couple of the many techniques that dentists use to straighten crooked teeth. Although the variety of treatments on offer are all very different they strive to achieve the same results. That is to improve the look and/or function of the teeth. In this post we’re going to explore the differences between clear braces and Invisalign. Manchester clinics dealing in orthodontic treatments will usually offer both of these types of treatment but which is best?
Invisalign and clear braces are similar in that they’re both discreet orthodontic treatments. They’re far less prominent than the heavy metallic train track style treatments of old. Clear braces for example are generally made of either ceramic or plastic and as the name suggests are clear so that they’re not easily seen. Invisalign too are made from a strong medical grade thermoplastic material so when worn they become almost invisible. Both of these treatments are ideal for those who don’t want others to know that they’re wearing braces. Both also work by applying gentle and constant pressure to the teeth. Where they differ however is in their design and function.
Invisalign braces Manchester for example consist of a series of trays known as aligners that are designed to fit snugly over the teeth. Although they have to be worn for at least 22 hours a day they’re easily removable so that the wearer can take them out to eat, drink, and clean their teeth. Conversely clear braces are usually fixed into the mouth by means of brackets which have a series of wires running through them. Some are self aligning and some need tightening, but the main point is that they’re designed to stay in the mouth permanently for the duration of the treatment.
What about more complex treatments?
Both clear braces in Manchester and invisalign are designed to treat both simple and complex treatments. This includes teeth overcrowding and malocclusions (over and under bite). Clear braces work using a series of tensioners (clear wires) which are gradually tightened over a period of approximately 12-24 months to ease teeth into their correct position. Conversely Invisalign aligners consist of a series of trays that are changed every two weeks, each one applying different pressure until the desired results are reached. Again treatment takes somewhere between 9 months and 2 years, so both of these aren’t quick fix solutions.
What about cost?
Ultimately Invisalign braces Manchester generally cost more than clear braces. This is because a series of individually crafted aligners (as many as 48) have to be made as opposed to just one permanently fixed brace; but does this make them any better? In a word no! Instead it really comes down to determining the specific needs and requirements of the patient in question.
It could be argued that clear braces perform the task slightly quicker than Invisalign. Manchester dentists however may argue that this isn’t always the case.
