Lingual Braces Manchester

Lingual Braces Manchester – Your Best Kept Secret!

Want to improve your smile, but don’t want anybody to know about it? Well, lingual braces Manchester might just be the solution you’re looking for. Maybe you’ve researched many different types of teeth straightening from fast orthodontic treatment to fast orthodontic treatment because you want your treatment to be both as quick and invisible as possible. But did you know that lingual braces are even less noticeable than clear aligners and include all the benefits of traditional braces too? Let’s take a closer look and find out more.

So what are lingual braces and how do they work?

We all know that wearing a traditional brace means a mouth full of metal brackets and wires that are on show every time you smile. Well, imagine hiding that same appliance behind your teeth? That’s exactly what lingual braces offers our patients. In fact, the word ‘lingual’ in dentistry means ‘near to, or on the side towards the tongue.’ So by attaching the brace to the inside surface of your teeth instead, they’re completely hidden from view when you smile, laugh, or talk.

This means that aside from being completely discreet, they still have all the advantages of traditional braces and work in the same way. By applying gentle and continuous pressure, your teeth will begin to move slowly into their desired position; and just the same as with most braces, you’ll need to come and see us every 6-8 weeks so that we can check your progress and make the next adjustments to further assist the straightening process.

With lingual braces, Manchester patients have the appliance digitally designed and custom made for their mouth. This ensures that they not only fit the inside of their teeth discreetly but are comfortable to wear and will achieve the best results possible.

Main benefits and differences of lingual braces

Depending on your circumstances and lifestyle, you may find lingual braces suit you more so than other brace appliances that are available to you. For instance, clear view braces such as Invisalign, are designed to be removable when you eat and drink. This means there is always a chance that your aligners might be misplaced, or even unworn if they are forgotten. If so, this will ultimately affect the results and length of your treatment. With lingual braces, Manchester patients have the brace fully fixed to their teeth, so they are working 24/7, which eliminates the stress of losing aligners, forgetting to wear them, and also the hassle of having to remove them before each meal. So put simply, if you like to regularly eat out at restaurants or maybe just aren’t sure if you’ll be diligent enough in wearing clear view braces then lingual braces may be a better option for you.

Also, unlike many types of fast orthodontic treatments, lingual braces are able to treat the full arch of teeth, including straightening tooth roots and issues with bite alignment. The reason fast orthodontic treatments are quicker is because they work mainly on the upper and lower front 6 teeth that are most noticeable when you smile. This is great if you’re looking for a gentle, effective, and speedy way to improve your teeth, however, it won’t be suitable for you if you have more complicated dental problems.

Of course one of the main reasons people choose lingual braces is because they are invisible. This means they are particularly suited to anyone who doesn’t want to be seen wearing braces, whether this is for professional reasons because their job involves talking to or meeting with clients regularly, or maybe due to self-confidence issues that wearing obviously noticeable metal braces won’t help with.

Anything else should I know?

Yes…

As with every orthodontic option, there are small disadvantages. In this case, one of these is the cost. Lingual braces are slightly more expensive, but that’s because they are individually customised to fit your teeth and specific requirements. Another downside is that it can often take a little longer to adapt to and may affect your speech slightly at first because they are fitted to the inside of the teeth. Don’t let this put you off though because most of our patients are completely used to them within 2 weeks and as with most braces anything new in the mouth can take some getting used to. Also, regardless of whatever type of brace you decide on, maintaining a good oral hygiene routine is always very important.

So the bottom line is that lingual braces can offer the perfect solution to getting a straight smile but in a totally discreet way. If you are still deciding on lingual braces, Manchester patients before and after photos will help you to see the outstanding results that can be achieved with this method. Hulme Orthodontics –The Types Of Dental Braces Explained

Hulme Orthodontics –The Types Of Dental Braces Explained

Years ago choosing dental braces was a straight forward process. You had conventional metal appliances and that was it! Nowadays, patients are bombarded with a wide variety of brace types including fixed lingual braces, Manchester removable aligners, discreet ceramic braces, and fast orthodontic treatments such as 6 month smiles. Manchester patients might understandably be overwhelmed at the choices available. To make things simpler, our Cheadle Hulme orthodontics team has broken them down into 3 simplified sections to give you a better understanding of what they can do,

Full-term fixed braces

There are basically two types of braces in this category. You have your conventional style braces which are fixed to the front of the teeth. These can either be metal or ceramic with tooth coloured wiring. Alternatively you have your lingual braces. In Manchester, and indeed many other parts of the country, people tend to opt for lingual braces because unlike conventional fixed braces, these are attached to the back of the teeth. This makes them invisible when you smile or speak. Both types can fix a wide variety of problems and both are full-term appliances, meaning patients can expect to wear them for a minimum of 12 months and up to 2 years.

Fast or accelerated orthodontic treatments

Fast orthodontic treatments are perfect for those people who are looking to cosmetically improve their smile. This could mean an unsightly gapped or flared tooth or teeth that are slightly crooked. Accelerated orthodontic treatments work by concentrating their efforts only on the front upper and lower teeth which are visible when you smile. Because they aren’t dealing with more complex problems such as bite alignment issues, results are achieved quickly (usually within 6 months or less). Treatments such as 6 month smiles Manchester, C-Fast, and Secret Smiles are all fast working, fixed brace systems that utilise brackets and wiring to gently move teeth into the desired position. As a result they’re ideal treatments for those who have an upcoming event that’s looming fast and want to look their best. This could be a wedding, a large family gathering, a job interview, or even a date.

Removable braces

As well as fixed braces, patients can also opt for removable braces. Two of the most popular are Invisalign and the Inman Aligner. As the name suggests removable braces are designed to be taken out by the patient, usually when eating, drinking, and cleaning their teeth. They’re about as far removed from the fixed bracket style braces as modern dentistry allows. Invisalign aligners for example are a series of clear plastic appliances that are placed over the teeth just like a gum shield. Each aligner in the series is designed to move the teeth a tiny amount and then it’s changed for the next one in the series. Because removable braces aren’t in place all the time, the patient has a little more freedom. That said, for best results both the Inman Aligner and Invisalign need to be worn for at least 20 hours a day.

At our Cheadle Hulme orthodontics practice we do everything we can to make sure that the brace treatment we suggest suits your requirements, your budget, and your lifestyle. Whether you need, long term fixed braces using conventional or lingual braces Manchester or fast cosmetic treatment using 6 Month Smiles, Manchester patients can feel safe in the knowledge that we have it covered.

If you’d like to talk to us about having straighter teeth or would like more information about our wide range of brace systems available, then come and pay a visit to our Cheadle Hulme orthodontics practice. To book an appointment contact us on 0161 660 1218 and start the ball rolling towards achieving that perfect smile.

Clear View Braces - What Are They and How Do They Work

Clear View Braces – What Are They and How Do They Work?

If you’re looking for a truly discreet form of adult orthodontic treatment then you have two real options; lingual braces Manchester and Invisalign. Manchester orthodontic practices tend to offer both but in this particular post we’re going to focus on the latter.

Otherwise known as clear view braces, Invisalign is an aligner style form of orthodontic treatment. Where lingual braces are attached to the rear of teeth using a traditional fixed bracket and wiring system, Invisalign works using a series of pre-programmed clear plastic trays known as aligners. Each aligner is custom made to fit over the teeth and moves them using continued physiological forces. The arch-wires of conventional braces also use physiological forces but instead of pulling, the aligners gradually push the teeth into the desired position. Force is generated by the flex of the plastic pushing on the teeth. Let’s just say that at the beginning your teeth are at position zero. The first aligner will allow your teeth to move to position one. Then the second aligner moves your teeth to position two, and so on and so forth until the final position (and indeed, straighter teeth) has been achieved.

Similarly to lingual braces, Invisalign Manchester braces are considered a full term treatment because they have the ability to treat a wide variety of dental problems. This means that typically treatment takes anywhere between 12-18 months to complete.

Fully removable brace system

We’ve already touched on the fact that Invisalign Aligners are fully removable but what exactly does this mean?

Unlike other bracket and wiring type systems which are permanently fixed to the teeth for the duration of your treatment, Invisalign braces are designed specifically to be easily removed by the patient. Although they need to be worn for between 20-22 hours a day, it’s necessary to remove them when eating, drinking, and cleaning the teeth. Right away this means that food particles and debris which can otherwise become lodged in between conventional braces can easily be removed. The only downside, if you can call it that, is that teeth should be cleaned after every meal. That said Invisalign braces are one of only a few orthodontic treatments which give you full control over when and where you wear them.

The bottom line is that not only are clear view braces invisible, they achieve the same results and more besides as conventional ‘bracket and wiring’ style treatments. For this reason they’re extremely popular amongst adults looking to take action against their less than perfect teeth.

Lingual Braces Before And After – How They Straighten Teeth

Lingual Braces Manchester vs Invisalign – A Comparison

While there are a variety of adult orthodontic treatments available, two of the lesser known are Invisalign Manchester and lingual braces. Manchester patients are turning to discreet orthodontic treatments as a way of maintaining their smile and when it comes to discretion, Invisalign braces Manchester and lingual braces are leading the way. But just how invisible are they? Let’s take a closer look…

Lingual braces

Lingual braces in Manchester are completely different from any other type of fixed brace system in that they attach onto the inside of the teeth rather than the outside. In other words when someone’s looking at a person wearing lingual braces, they would never know that they’re wearing them.

They work on exactly the same principle as traditional orthodontic treatments in that they use continual gentle force to push and/or pull the teeth back into position. This is done using the same kind of bracket and wire system that conventional braces do, except this time, brackets aren’t attached to the front of the teeth.

Like Invisalign braces in Manchester, treatments are long term, taking anywhere between 18 and 36 months to complete. They can be used to correct a whole host of dental problems including crooked or overcrowded teeth, gapped teeth, and mild to moderate over/under bite. Also like Invisalign, Manchester patients will have to pay more for the treatment because they’re custom made. However unlike Invisalign, technical training and expertise are needed to fit them.

The downside to wearing lingual braces is that they take a little longer to get used to. Because the system feels strange on the tongue at first, full pronunciation or words may prove difficult. However this is usually rectified after a few days when the patient gets used to wearing them.

Invisalign

As with lingual braces, Manchester patients can be assured of complete discretion with Invisalign treatment. However unlike the former, there are many differences. Firstly the Invisalign system is a removable ‘aligner style’ brace designed specifically to be removed when eating, drinking, and cleaning the teeth. This is to aid oral hygiene as food particles can become lodged in between the brackets and wires of conventional braces. Instead of being secured onto the teeth, Invisalign Manchester braces fit over the teeth utilising a lightweight, clear plastic gum-shield.

The other main difference between these and Lingual braces is how they work…

While lingual braces rely on a bracket and wire system to move teeth back into position, with Invisalign, teeth are forced into a certain position using a series of (in some cases as many as 48) aligners. These are placed over the teeth in sequential order at 2-3 week periods until the last one moves the teeth into the final position. Before a patient is given their aligners, a series of computer diagrams are drawn up plotting the gradual movement of the teeth. At any one time the dentist (and the patient) can see exactly the stage they should be at in order to create that great looking smile.

So what about the downsides?

The only real downside, is that because Invisalign Braces Manchester are designed to be removable, the patient has complete control over when they wear them. The issue is that they need to be worn for 22 hours a day to achieve best results, so the wearer needs to be sufficiently self-disciplined enough to do that.

As you can see, if you’re after discreet adult orthodontic treatment there are systems available. If you’d like to find out more about lingual braces Manchester, or Invisalign Manchester, then book yourself a consultation with Shi Karim and the team at Church Road Dental to discuss your options. Lingual braces Manchester Or Invisalign – A New Breed Of Braces

Lingual braces Manchester Or Invisalign – A New Breed Of Braces

For many years, when a patient underwent orthodontic treatment there was no hiding the fact. Why? Because every time the wearer laughed and/or smiled they greeted onlookers with a mouthful of metal. While metal style braces are still worn there is now a need for orthodontic treatments that are more discreet. This is where brace systems such as Invisalign Manchester and lingual braces Manchester come in. So how does this ‘new breed’ of orthodontic treatments work?

Firstly although Invisalign braces Manchester and lingual braces do the same job of straightening and correcting teeth in a discreet fashion, they are completely different systems. Invisalign braces for example are an aligner-style system that are designed to be fully and easily removable. Whereas, lingual braces are a more conventional bracket and wiring style treatment that is fixed permanently in place for the duration of your treatment. Let’s take a closer look at each type in detail.

Lingual braces

Lingual braces are the most closely related to the conventional style braces that we all know. They use brackets and wiring, just like traditional brace systems do, and straighten teeth by the use of an arch of tension wire that applies continued gentle pressure, forcing teeth back into their correct position. However perhaps the most significant difference is that the brackets are fastened to the inside of the teeth along with any wiring. This means that when a lingual brace wearer smiles, speaks, or eats, a person looking at them wouldn’t be able to tell they’re wearing them. In fact from an aesthetics point of view, they’re completely invisible.

What about pros and cons?

The good thing about lingual braces is that they’re classed as a long-term treatment. This means that they have the ability fix a whole host of dental problems and issues such as over/under bite, twisted, crooked, and flared teeth, tooth overcrowding, and tooth root alignment. Treatment takes anything from 9 months to 24 months depending upon the severity of the problem and they are seen as very successful solutions.

On the downside, to fit lingual braces in Manchester patients will need to seek the services of a fully trained orthodontist who has experience in this field, as they aren’t normally fitted by a regular dentist. The other problem is that because they’re attached to the back of teeth, they can take some getting used to. Speech and pronunciation can be affected for a short while until people get used to wearing them. That said, this adjustment period normally only lasts for a few weeks.

Invisalign braces

An adult looking for a modern, discreet way of wearing braces might want to consider Invisalign. Manchester dental clinics are very excited to offer this type of orthodontic treatment and not without good reason. Like lingual braces, Manchester residents will be pleased to know that Invisalign aligners can fix a whole gamut of dental problems. However unlike lingual braces which attach to the back of the teeth, the aligners are worn like a gum shield sitting OVER the teeth.

Rather than wearing a single brace throughout the duration of your treatment, Invisalign braces Manchester are designed to be disposable and changed every 2 weeks. Because there are no brackets and wiring involved, Invisalign braces are fully removable. As such, they’re designed to be taken out every time a patient eats and cleans their teeth. Each aligner is made of clear plastic, so when worn it’s incredibly discreet. It’s also designed to be one of a series with each one a different fit. The idea is that that each aligner gradually forces the teeth into a pre-planned position. When this position is reached it’s replaced with the next aligner in the series, and so on and so forth, until the teeth are straight.

So what about the cons?

If you’re considering undergoing Invisalign, Manchester orthodontists will probably warn you that treatment isn’t cheap, especially when compared to other orthodontic systems, and this could be a sticking point for some people. However others might consider the cost a small price to pay for the sense of freedom and discretion they get from wearing them.

So there you have it, 2 types of new breed discreet braces that you might want to opt for.  If you’re still undecided between lingual braces Manchester and Invisalign braces Manchester then come and talk to our experienced orthodontic team at Church Road Dental and Cosmetics. Contact us on 0121 660 1218 to book a no-obligation consultation right now and start the ball rolling towards an attractive and healthy smile.

6 Month Smiles Manchester – Fast Orthodontics At It's Best!

From Invisalign To Lingual Braces – Manchester Braces Explained

There are a wide variety of orthodontic treatments available on the market and as such, it can get a little confusing. Systems range from lingual braces, Manchester Invisalign, and accelerated treatments such as C-Fast, through to conventional metallic style braces and removable braces such as the Inman Aligner. Manchester patients therefore can feel overwhelmed with the amount of choice available. In order to bring clarity to the type of orthodontic braces that are suitable for you, here’s what you need to know.

Fixed vs removable

Brace systems come in fixed or removable varieties. However just to confuse you more there isn’t really one specific type that is suitable for a specific type of treatment. Instead braces may be selected based on the needs, requirements, and/or budget of the patient.

Systems such as lingual braces Manchester for example are a longer-term bracket and wiring style  brace that’s worn on the inside of the teeth, so they’re completely invisible to others when you smile, eat, or speak. Conversely braces such as Manchester Invisalign are fully removable and are designed to be taken out by the wearer during meal times and when brushing their teeth. Both types have their advantages and disadvantages although they both do the same job of straightening teeth using gentle applied force.

Brackets vs aligners

In days of old, there really was only one type of brace system and that was the metallic ‘train track’ style variety that gave onlookers more than a glint of metal every time the wearer smiled. Effective? Yes, but discreet? Absolutely not!

Nowadays discretion plays a big part in children’s and indeed adult orthodontics. As such, many bracket and wiring style brace systems are made using tooth coloured wiring and white brackets to give a more discreet appearance. Despite this, they can still be seen by others if they’re close enough. On the contrary aligner style brace systems such as Invisalign and the Inman Aligner Manchester are different. While it’s true that the Inman aligner has a very thin metal bar that runs across the front of the teeth, neither use a bracket and wire system to straighten them and are therefore arguably more discreet. However the Invisalign system takes it one step further and does away with springs and bows altogether in favour of a series of simple clear plastic devices known as trays, which are worn over the teeth rather like a gum shield. The result is an orthodontic treatment that can not only be removed, but because it’s made of thin clear plastic and there are zero brackets and wires, is incredibly discreet.

Short-term vs longer-term

Many adults these days choose to wear braces because they’re unhappy with the way that their smile looks. They maybe aren’t interested in treating the whole smile, but instead want to focus their attentions on the top and bottom 6 teeth which are visible when they smile. For this reason there are fast or accelerated orthodontic treatments. Systems such as C-Fast, Six Month Smiles, and Secret Smiles can correct crooked, twisted, or even slightly gapped teeth in as little as a few weeks. Because of this, they’re ideal for those who have an upcoming event such as a wedding, a job interview, or even a date, and would like to look and feel their best.

On the contrary longer term treatments such as lingual braces Manchester and Manchester Invisalign can take anywhere between 6 and 24 months to complete. However unlike accelerated treatments, as well as correcting the placement of the visible front and bottom teeth, they can also correct underlying problems such as tooth root alignment as well as bite placement, so you get a better overall treatment.

So there you have it! Hopefully this has brought a little clarity to the world of orthodontic treatments. If you’d like to find out more about the Inman Aligner, Manchester Invisalign or lingual braces, Manchester residents might want to speak to Shi Karim and the team at Church Road Dental and Cosmetics. Lingual Braces Manchester – How They Differ From Other Systems

Lingual Braces Manchester – How They Differ From Other Systems

Chances are that if you’ve done any research on orthodontic treatments you’ll have come across lingual braces. Manchester residents looking to undergo treatment might be surprised to learn that they are unlike any other form of cheap clear braces Manchester. In fact despite many of the benefits that clear braces offers Manchester patients, the lingual variety have one trump card that others don’t and that’s total invisibility.

Otherwise known as incognito braces, lingual braces are custom made to fit onto the inside surface of the teeth (lingual means tongue). In doing so they offer all the benefits that other fixed brace systems have by offering the best possible results, but they can’t be seen when you smile, or eat. Ultimately this means that for anyone who for either personal or professional reasons doesn’t want others to know that they’re wearing them, they offer the ideal solution

So what’s different about Lingual braces Manchester?

Unlike many other forms of cheap clear braces Manchester, lingual braces are generally classed as a longer term treatment (although there are varieties of lingual brace that are shorter term). In most cases treatment takes anywhere between 1 and 2 years to complete depending upon the severity of the patient’s case. Also unlike many other types of fast orthodontic treatments, lingual braces can treat an entire arch of teeth, not just the upper and lower front teeth that are visible when you smile. They can also straighten tooth roots and deal with specific issues such as bite alignment.

Are there any downsides?

Firstly while many clear braces offers Manchester patients a cheaper alternative to teeth straightening, lingual braces are more expensive. This is because of the fact that they’re fully customised to your specific requirements. The other downside is that because they’re fitted to the inside of teeth they can take longer to adapt to, and in some cases they may affect speech at first. That said, the majority of wearers state that they fully settled into them within 2-3 weeks.

The making and fitting process explained

The first stage upon deciding that you want lingual braces is to visit the dentist for some impressions of your teeth. Once these have been done, they’re sent off to a centralised laboratory where your bespoke braces are made. This can take around 4-6 weeks.

Once your braces have come back from the laboratory we’ll invite you to back to the practice to attach the braces. This takes on average 1-2 hours and is a pain free process. You will of course need to keep your mouth open for much of this period, but apart from this, there is no drilling or injections involved.

After the brace is fitted you’ll be invited back to our practice every 6-10 weeks so that we can check on progress, but aside from this you can carry on your normal life with nobody aware that you even have them. When you come back to see us, we’ll normally adjust the tension of the wire so that your teeth can move some more. You may feel a little discomfort at first but this is usually brought under control quickly using over-the-counter pain killers.

The bottom line is that lingual braces Manchester offer the ideal solution for those people needing long-term orthodontic treatments but who really don’t want to be seen wearing braces. They’re also becoming increasingly popular with older teenagers too. In both scenarios, incognito braces offer the perfect solution.

If you’d like to find out more about lingual braces or indeed cheap clear braces Manchester or what clear braces offers Manchester patients then contact our friendly but experienced team who can help. Call us on 0161 660 1218 and start the ball rolling towards better, straighter teeth today.

Orthodontics Manchester – How Do Braces Straighten Teeth?

Orthodontic Braces In Manchester – What Are The Various Types?

Few people are fortunate enough to be born with perfect teeth so orthodontic treatment such as Manchester Invisalign or lingual braces Manchester can help to restore a less than perfect smile. The good news for many adults is that braces in Manchester have moved on since the days of their childhood and now there are a wide variety available. In this post we’re going to give a quick overview and explanation of the various types.

Metallic or traditional braces

Most of us remember the heavy metallic ‘train track’ braces that many of us wore as children and this is probably the image that springs to mind when the words ‘orthodontic braces’ are mentioned. Fortunately modern day metallic braces are smaller, lighter, and more discreet than their predecessors. In addition new heat activated arch-wires use body heat to shift teeth quickly and less painfully than older systems.

Pros – They’re the least expensive type of brace and they’re available on the NHS making them extremely cost effective. What’s more they can come with customisable coloured bands, so for children or adults that want to express themselves, conventional metal style braces in Manchester offer the perfect opportunity.

Cons – Despite the fact that they’re lighter and smaller, they’re still the most noticeable type of brace.

Ceramic braces

Manufactured in exactly the same style as metallic braces using a series of brackets and wiring,  ceramic braces utilise clear brackets and tooth-coloured wiring in order to make them less visible than conventional braces.

Pros – Similarly to lingual braces, Manchester patients will be pleased to know that they’re ideal for those who aren’t at all confident about wearing braces and therefore don’t want them to be particularly noticeable. In addition they can also move teeth faster than other types of brace.

Cons – They are more expensive than conventional metal braces and in addition the tooth coloured brackets are prone to staining if not taken care of, thus affecting their ability to be discreet.

Lingual Braces

The main difference about lingual braces Manchester as opposed to any other form of bracket and wire brace system is that they’re secured to the back of the teeth rather than the front.

Pros – Lingual braces are completely invisible from the front so wearers can smile with confidence.

Cons –  They’re more expensive than many other forms of orthodontic treatments and because they’re fastened to the rear of your teeth, they can take a bit of getting used to. Regular adjustments made at the dentist can also be more complex than with traditional braces. In addition, they’re not always appropriate for severe orthodontic cases.

Invisalign

This type of orthodontic treatment is about as far removed from other brace systems as you can possibly get in Manchester. Invisalign consists of a series of custom made aligners known as trays that are worn over the teeth like a clear gum shield. They’re designed to be removable when eating and cleaning the teeth. Each aligner is taken out and the next one in the series inserted every two weeks throughout treatment.

Pros – They’re about as invisible and discreet as orthodontic treatments get. As they’re removed and inserted by the patient at home they involve less visits to the dentist. Instead progress check-ups usually take place every 6 weeks. They can also be used to treat a wide variety of orthodontic problems.

Cons – Because each aligner has to be specially made to suit a patient’s requirements they don’t come cheap. As such they’re one of the most expensive treatments available. Because they’re fashioned from a clear light acrylic they’re also hard to spot when put down (similar to a contact lens) so they can be easily lost and therefore costly to replace. They also need to be regularly cleaned in a solution to avoid unsightly staining.

So there you have it! The various types of braces in Manchester and their pros and cons.

Lingual Braces Manchester

Lingual Braces Manchester – An In Depth Guide

When it comes to orthodontic braces in Manchester in the 21st century, not surprisingly there are a wide variety available. From conventional metallic style braces through to discreet clear braces, Manchester patients can select a particular brace system that fits in with their requirements, budget, and ultimately their lifestyle.

In this post we’re going to talk about one particular treatment known as lingual braces. Manchester patients often choose them because they have distinct advantages over other orthodontic treatments. Yet if you mentioned them to anyone who hasn’t come into contact with them, chances are they probably wouldn’t have heard of them. So what exactly are they and how can they help?

The first thing to note about lingual braces is that they’re placed behind the teeth rather than in front. This is unlike many other types of other brace systems. For this reason they’re ideal for those adults who feel particularly self-conscious about wearing braces, because they’re virtually invisible.

Lingual braces are a longer term orthodontic treatment that have the ability to treat the whole upper and lower arches of your teeth. This is in contrast to fast or accelerated braces in Manchester which concentrate their efforts on the upper and lower teeth that are visible when the wearer smiles. For this reason they’re ideal for those with more severe orthodontic problems. They work in the same way as conventional braces in that they apply continued gentle force which gradually pulls the teeth into alignment. As such, they can treat a whole host of problems from over crowding to unsightly gapping, and treatment time is usually around 12-36 months.

So how does the process for acquiring lingual braces in Manchester work?

Once you and your dentist have come to the decision that lingual braces are the best form of treatment, an impression will be taken of your teeth. This may take some time as the impressions or moulds need to be 100% accurate. These are then sent off to a centralised laboratory where the custom brackets are made. After about 6 weeks expect a call from your orthodontist to arrange a fitting.

Fitting involves applying dental cement to the underside of a row of brackets before pressing them into place on the back of your teeth. Once the cement sets, the plastic applicator holding the brackets together can be broken off. Next the arch wire is installed by threading it through the brackets behind the teeth. Purposely the arch wire is shaped for the final position of your teeth and because of this it creates tension. As it does so, and tries to pull back to position, it moves slowly and gradually moves the teeth.

The first few weeks

Most patients find the first few weeks a little challenging in that they might experience temporary speech impediments as the tongue can’t touch the back of the teeth. But this is usually overcome. Also the wearer may experience mild discomfort as they get used to wearing the braces. In Manchester we suggest that if you are experiencing any problems that lasts longer than 4 weeks, that you come back to us for advice.

What about cost?

Because lingual braces are custom-made, when compared to other conventional or clear braces Manchester, treatment tends to be more complex so ultimately they cost more. That said, the results they bring can be pretty spectacular, leaving patients with a fully restored smile that they feel happy and more confident about.

If you have a smile you’re not happy with and are considering lingual braces Manchester or any other type of braces in Manchester then we invite you to have a consultation with our experienced orthodontics team. To schedule an appointment you can either contact us via our website or call directly on 0161 660 1218. On behalf of Shi Karim and the team we look forward to welcoming you to our practice.

6 Month Smiles Manchester - What It Is And How It Works

6 Month Smiles Manchester – What It Is And How It Works?

When compared to other forms of orthodontic treatments such as Invisalign Manchester and lingual braces Manchester, 6 Month Smiles Manchester is a bit of an enigma. It might not be as discreet as lingual braces which are worn behind the teeth, or indeed aligner style orthodontics such as invisalign, but nonetheless, it’s a treatment which is proving very popular. With this in mind, what exactly is the 6 Month Smiles treatment, and how does it work?

6 Month Smiles is in essence a form of orthodontic treatment that is designed to correct and straighten the teeth which are visible when a person smiles. The system utilises tooth coloured nickel-titanium wiring and small metal brackets, which are fixed to the front of the teeth, to help correct a whole host of dental problems. Also, as the name suggests, it has the ability to correct problems within 6 months or under. This is a far cry from other orthodontic treatments that can take up to 3 years to complete.

So how does it work?

Unlike lingual braces Manchester which gently push and pull the teeth from the back, or Invisalign which place the teeth back into position using a series of a fitted trays known as aligners, 6 Month Smiles uses a combination of low force and low movement. Every time the tooth-coloured wiring is adjusted it gently and gradually pulls the teeth back into position using small movements. Over a period of 6 months, teeth are moved back into position.

What about disadvantages?

Unlike Invisalign Manchester and lingual braces, 6 Month Smiles is not designed to be a comprehensive orthodontic treatment. Instead it concentrates its efforts purely on the aesthetics of a patient’s smile. It can’t fix issues such as bite or occlusion corrections so  it isn’t the ideal solution for everyone

So who is it for?

Anyone that suffers from mild diastemas and spacing, tooth crowding, overlapping teeth, rotating teeth or extrusions/intrusions, might be an ideal candidate for 6 Month Smiles. Manchester dental practices will often recommend the treatment for use in these circumstances. Because it provides noticeable results fast, it’s ideal for those people wanting to transform their smile for a specific event. This might include a wedding or graduation, a job interview, an upcoming holiday, or even a special date.

To sum up

6 Month Smiles is an innovative cost-effective solution for those concerned purely with the aesthetics of their smile. As such it’s designed specifically to straighten the upper and lower front teeth that are visible when we smile. Treatment takes anything from 3 months to 6 months (hence the name). Unlike lingual braces Manchester or Invisalign, Manchester orthodontists will advise that they aren’t designed to fix underlying or complex dental issues, but instead are ideal for those wanting a discreet quick-fix solution.
