Fast Orthodontic Treatment – Does It work?

Fast Orthodontic Treatment – Does It work?

Whenever you seek orthodontic Manchester treatment it’s usually because you have a problem with the alignment of your teeth. This can be anything from a slightly misaligned or crooked tooth that  spoils the appearance of your smile, through to severe bite problems due to malocclusions. Fortunately there are a variety of treatments available ranging from Invisalign offers to super-fast orthodontic treatment.

While there has been much written about the wonders of Invisalign, there isn’t much information available about fast or accelerated orthodontics. In fact many people don’t even know that such a thing exists. With this in mind, let’s take a closer look.

First of all, what exactly is fast orthodontics?

You’re probably aware that conventional braces involve having a series of permanent brackets and wiring fitted to the teeth. You may have even worn braces as a child. If you did you’ll also know that it wasn’t a quick treatment. In fact on average children wear braces for around 18 months but depending upon the severity of the condition, this can be anywhere up to 30 months. While this might be okay for children, as adults it seems that we want everything faster and cheaper. Unfortunately, conventional brace appliances don’t fall into either category.

As adults, we also desire a healthier, better looking smile, but we don’t necessarily want to wait over 2 years to get it. This is where fast orthodontic treatment comes in. Over the last decade or so, orthodontic Manchester treatment has included treatments such as C-Fast, Six Month Smiles and Secret Smiles, all of which are designed to straighten teeth quickly. In fact some of which can do the job in a matter of weeks not months.

So how do they work?

In essence, they work in exactly the same way as most other fixed orthodontic appliances in that they move teeth by applying continual gentle force (whereas aligner style treatments, such as Invisalign, offers patients a more discreet treatment using invisible trays worn over the teeth).  Normally this is achieved via a series of self-tensioning wires that are threaded through small brackets, which in turn are attached to the teeth. The only real difference is that accelerated orthodontic treatments do it quicker. While this sounds great, there is a caveat and it’s this…….

When full term orthodontic appliances are in action they actually move the teeth relatively quickly. That’s the easy part. The harder part, and one that takes the most time, is moving the tooth root. This is because it takes a while for the bone structure to move and reform. Therefore, it’s impossible for fast orthodontic treatment to do this in just a few months. As such the teeth are moved, but the tooth roots aren’t. In addition, to cut down ‘appliance time’ even more, accelerated orthodontic treatment concentrates only on the upper and lower front teeth which are visible when you smile. So that’s the trade off!

Of course you might argue that speedy orthodontic treatments only do half a job and I guess you could say that this is true. As such they certainly wouldn’t be beneficial for a patient with more severe orthodontic issues. That said they are ideal for those patients who have mild orthodontic problems and are looking for a quick cosmetic fix. It may be that they have a crooked or flared tooth that spoils their smile; or alternatively they have a slight tooth gap and want to look their best before an upcoming event, such as a job interview, a family gathering, or even a date. Whatever the reason, these people are looking for a speedy cosmetic solution and fast orthodontic treatment gives them exactly this.

So in answer to the question in the title – “Does fast orthodontics work?” The answer is that provided a patient is concerned purely about the cosmetic side of straightening teeth, and is aware that it will only work on the visible upper and lower front teeth, then absolutely YES!

Invisible Braces Manchester – The Various Types Explained

As an adult, one of the biggest stumbling blocks that prevents people from having orthodontic treatment is a lack of discretion. Let’s face it, no adult wants to be seen sporting a mouth full of metal, but fortunately this is where dentists can recommend invisible braces. Manchester patients for example can wear them without feeling self-conscious about smiling or speaking. Indeed, treatments such as Invisalign braces in Manchester are about as discreet as teeth braces can be. That said, Invisalign Manchester are only a small part of what are designated as ‘invisible braces’ so let’s take a closer look at the various types available.

Ceramic ‘clear view’ braces

Similarly to traditional metal style braces, ceramic clear view brace systems utilise brackets and wiring which work together to move teeth back into alignment. Also just like conventional braces they are fixed to the mouth for the duration of the treatment. More often than not this may be 1-2 years. However where they differ is that rather than being made from metal, ceramic clear view braces make use of tooth-coloured wiring and brackets to ensure better discretion.

Lingual braces

If you’re in search of something slightly more discreet, you might want to consider lingual braces. Again they work by using brackets and wiring to push/pull teeth back into position and likewise they’re considered a longer-term treatment. However instead of the brackets being attached to the front of the teeth, instead they’re attached at the back. Ultimately this means that when you smile or speak your lingual braces aren’t on show. When it comes to Invisible braces, Manchester dentists will often recommend these to fix a wide variety of issues. The downsides are that because all the action takes place at the back of the mouth, they aren’t that easy to fit and in addition they can take some getting used to. That said, lingual braces are a popular choice.

Invisalign

Perhaps the ultimate in invisible brace systems is Invisalign. Manchester dentists often recommend these to patients who need mild to moderate orthodontic treatment, but want treatment that is totally discreet. Invisalign braces Manchester are radically different in many ways. In fact, they’re as far removed from conventional braces as it’s possible to get. For example where the others are fixed to the teeth for the duration of the treatment, Invisalign braces are designed to be fully removable. In addition brackets and wiring are exchanged for aligner-style clear acrylic shells which are worn over the teeth. I say ‘shells’ plural because rather than the one singular appliance, Invisalign treatment utilises a whole series of aligners which are changed every two weeks. This can mean as many as 48 different appliances all working to move the teeth spanning the duration of your treatment. On the downside, it’s thought that acrylic aligners aren’t as bio-metrically strong as bracket and wiring style braces and therefore aren’t recommended for those needing major orthodontic treatment. However for the ordinary person who simply wants straighter teeth as discreetly as possible then Invisalign ticks all the right boxes.

Clear View Braces – Are They Better Than Invisalign?

Clear View Braces – Are They Better Than Invisalign?

When it comes to orthodontic treatment in Manchester, Invisalign aligners are often considered the ultimate in adult brace systems; but are they really better than more conventional clear view braces? Let’s take a closer look.

Let’s face it, even those adults who would benefit greatly from the type of fastest orthodontic treatment never go through with it because they are put off by the way that braces look when attached to the teeth. Now however, patients have the option of Invisalign.

Prior to 1998 when Invisalign burst onto the scene, the only alternative to metal style braces were fixed clear view ceramic braces or lingual braces, which were worn on the inside of the teeth. Although more discreet than say the metal variety, they could still be seen when the patient smiled or spoke. Now for the first time patients could have their teeth straightened without any unsightly wires or bracketing. Utilising a series of clear plastic aligners, each Invisalign aligner is designed to be worn over the teeth just like a gum shield. What’s more, unlike traditional style orthodontic treatment, each invisible aligner is designed to be easily removed.

So the question is…. Why then do dentists still use clear braces when on the surface of it, Manchester Invisalign appears to be so much better?

The main reason is that despite all the advancements in technology, Invisalign are arguably bio-metrically inferior to more traditional types of clear view braces. Some dentists suggest that it’s more difficult for plastic shells to create the complex forces of movement needed to properly align both the tooth and the tooth root. For this reason many dentists still prefer to use conventional brackets and wiring to correct more complex or severe cases and/or those requiring the fastest orthodontic treatment.

So to sum up…

Manchester Invisalign is radically different from any other type of orthodontic treatment and has revolutionised the way we think about adult braces. In most mild to moderate cases it presents the perfect longer-term solution for those people who want a better looking smile, but don’t want to go through the hassle of having a mouth full of metal. For this reason, Invisalign is very popular. However for those with more severe orthodontic problems, or those looking for a quick-fix solution, then traditional metal style braces or ceramic clear view braces are arguably the better option.

To find out more about the right type of orthodontic treatment for you, why not book a consultation with the team at Church Road Dental and Cosmetics. To make an appointment call us on 0161 660 1218 and take the first steps towards achieving a great looking smile.

Orthodontist Manchester – Invisalign vs Lingual Braces

Orthodontist Manchester – Invisalign vs Lingual Braces

If you’ve been reading a lingual braces blog and feel that a discreet form of tooth straightening treatment is what you need, then you might also want to take a look at what Invisalign offers Manchester patients. While both lingual braces and Invisalign treatments are indeed discreet, there are some differences. Our orthodontist Manchester explains….

Lingual braces

If you’re looking for a discreet form of orthodontic treatment then lingual braces are about as discreet as conventional bracket and wiring style braces get. Why? Because unlike traditional metal braces, the brackets of lingual braces are attached to the rear of the teeth, so all the action happens at the back. For this reason when you smile or speak the person that you’re speaking to or smiling at, won’t see that tell-tale glint of metal. Lingual braces work by applying continual gentle force to pull the teeth back into position. Just like Invisalign aligners, lingual braces are what is known as full-term treatments and can fix a wide variety of orthodontic problems including over/underbites and cross bites, plus helping to maintain correct teeth spacing. Because lingual braces are fitted to the rear of the teeth it does require specialist training. As a result not every orthodontist in Manchester will offer it. However those that do, suggest that it’s every bit as successful as many other brace systems.

Invisalign Aligners

Just like lingual braces, what Invisalign offers Manchester patients is complete discretion.  However that really is where the similarities end. Whereas lingual braces are fixed and utilise conventional brackets and wiring to move teeth, lingual braces are fully removable and use a series of clear acrylic aligners which help the teeth move in a natural way. Each acrylic aligner is worn over the teeth, just like an invisible gum shield, and is designed to move teeth to a certain position before the next aligner in the series takes over. Patients can expect anywhere between 24-36 aligners during treatment but in some cases there may be more. Treatments last on average 18 months but can take up to 3 years. While any good lingual braces blog will tell you that they take some getting used to, Invisalign aligners are usually worn with no problems from the start. Finally and just like lingual braces, Invisalign aligners can also treat a wide variety of  dental problems.

So there you have it! Hopefully this Invisalign/lingual braces blog has given you all the information you need to make an informed dental decision about what Invisalign offers Manchester patients vs lingual braces. If you’re still in doubt and need further assistance, then come and talk to our orthodontist Manchester today. Inman Aligner UK vs Invisalign Braces – The changing Face Of Braces

Inman Aligner UK vs Invisalign Braces – The changing Face Of Braces

It wasn’t so many years ago that teeth straightening treatments meant one thing…. having to wear those clunky looking ‘train-track’ style metal braces that glinted in the light every time you smiled. Nowadays, however, technology has moved on and orthodontic treatments such as the Inman Aligner UK and Invisalign braces UK are as far removed from traditional ‘bracket and wiring’ style braces as you can get. In this post our orthodontist Manchester explores the changing face of ‘aligner style’ braces.

Fixed vs removable braces

Traditional bracket and wiring style brace systems are fixed permanently into the mouth for the duration of the treatment. The brackets are glued into position onto the teeth and then the  tensioning wire is painstakingly threaded through. In most cases the only time this style of orthodontic treatment is removed is when the braces have done their job and the teeth are back into the correct position. Ultimately this means that the patient needs to wear them 24/7, often for a considerable amount of time.

Aligner style braces however are different. Why? Because they’re designed to be easily removable. What’s more they’re designed to be removed by the patient on a daily basis. Because of this, removable brace treatments such as the Inman aligner and Invisalign treatments give the patient full control over their treatment. Both these styles of braces are designed to be removed when eating and drinking. This avoids the hassle of getting food particles lodged in between the brackets and as such, it makes oral hygiene easier. Ultimately although they are supposed to be worn for a minimum of 18 hours in the case of the Inman aligner UK and 20 hours for the Invisalign aligner, patients can choose when and where they’d like to wear them.

No more wiring

All braces work by applying gentle and sustained force to the teeth in order to push or pull them back into position. Traditionally this is done using tensioning wires that are positioned across the teeth. Ultimately this means that they’re likely to be more visible. While this mightn’t be a problem for some adults, others may feel put off from wearing them. On the contrary with aligner style braces the way that they move teeth is different. The Inman aligner for example utilises two spring loaded bows to gently manoeuvre teeth back into position while Invisalign braces UK uses a series of custom made aligners known as trays. Each aligner is designed to fit snugly over the teeth like a clear plastic gum shield and will move the teeth just 1/10mm. After two weeks that aligner is discarded and changed for the next one in the series. This will be a slightly different size and wouldn’t be able to fit unless the teeth had previously moved sufficiently. Trays are changed every two weeks for the duration of the treatment until eventually, the patient has perfectly straight teeth.

As you can see, the Inman Aligner UK and Invisalign Braces UK could be seen as the way forward for modern-day orthodontic treatment. As such those people who may never have considered adult braces before, might now think differently. They’re discreet, and in the case of the Inman aligner, can straighten teeth fast. Inman Aligner Before And After – How It Helps Your Teeth

While Invisalign offers patients a long-term treatment for the perfect smile, Manchester patients might also want to consider the Inman Aligner. Before and after pictures can show amazing transformations, but for many patients, the Inman Aligner has not only restored their smile but their confidence too. What’s more it has achieved it in super fast time. So how does the Inman Aligner do this and how does it help your teeth?

If you suffer with crowding or protrusion of the front teeth, then the Inman Aligner offers the perfect solution. It’s safe, it’s efficient, and it’s quick. Unlike other removable brace treatments such as Invisalign, the Inman Aligner takes weeks to achieve results, rather than months or years. In fact, in most cases your teeth can gently be guided back into their correct position within 6-18 weeks. So why so fast?

The Inman Aligner is designed specifically to concentrate it’s efforts on the front upper and lower teeth which are visible when you smile. While treatments such as lingual braces, ceramic braces, and Invisalign offers patients the chance to correct underlying issues such as tooth root alignment and bite, the Inman Aligner focuses on one area only, and this is why results are achieved fast. For this reason it’s an ideal treatment for those people who have an upcoming event such as a family gathering, a wedding, a job interview, or a date, and want to look their best.

So how does it work?

The Inman Aligner works by incorporating two spring-loaded bows  – one located on the inner side of your teeth and one located on the outer side. Because these bows gently oppose each other they cover a large range of movement as they both push and pull the teeth back into position. This is why for many people, Inman Aligner before and after results show a dramatic transformation in a very short period of time.

Because it has a wide range of movement a smile in Manchester can be improved in many ways. These include:

  • Aligning the front teeth (including rotations, crossbites, protrusions, or crowding)
  • Aiding orthodontic relapse (this usually occurs when patients haven’t worn a retainer after previous brace treatment)

In addition the Inman Aligner can also be used as a stand alone treatment to ensure perfectly straight teeth before cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening; or as a pre-alignment for more in-depth cosmetic dental treatments such as porcelain veneers.

If you’re not entirely happy with the aesthetics of your smile, Manchester residents can talk to us about the Inman Aligner. Before and after transformations are fast and unlike Invisalign,  offers patients an affordable speedy solution to straightening teeth. Why not call our orthodontic team for a no-obligation consultation on 0161 660 1218 today

Inman Aligner Before And After – What A Difference It Makes

Inman Aligner Manchester –When Would You Use It?

Like Manchester Invisalign the Inman Aligner is a removable style of orthodontic appliance, but that’s really where the similarity ends. The Inman Aligner Manchester is known as an accelerated treatment whereas the former is more long-term. So for those seeking positive Inman Aligner before and after results fast, they’re in luck. In fact, results can be seen within as little as 6-9 weeks. The aligner works using a series of bows that apply continual gentle pressure to push and pull the teeth back into position. The results are an improved smile within a matter of weeks.

Now we know what the Inman Aligner is, let’s take a look at when you’d use it.

The Inman Aligner is ideal for use on those people who have experienced an orthodontic relapse. This is where a retainer hasn’t been worn after previous orthodontic treatment and the teeth have ‘relapsed’ back into their original pre-orthodontic position. In addition for people seeking an overall aesthetic look as part of a Smile Makeover, the Inman Aligner Manchester is ideal. It can also be used as a pre-alignment for further cosmetic treatment such as fitting porcelain veneers or cosmetic bonding, or as a stand alone treatment in it’s own right, correcting protrusions, rotations, crossbites and crowding.

So what’s involved in the treatment?

Firstly after a consultation the dentist will take a series of pictures, X-rays, and impressions. The pictures are so that you can see the Inman Aligner before and after results when treatment has finished and compare the two.

Over a period of a few weeks the aligner will be custom fabricated. Once made, your dentist will call you back into the practice for the fitting. Because the Inman Aligner is designed to be easily removable it’s a straight forward process and can be fitted in a matter of minutes.

Next patients are advised to carry on with their normal daily life. For best results the aligner needs to be removed when eating and cleaning the teeth. However it should remain in the mouth for between 16 and 20 hours per day.

Periodic checks will then be scheduled every 2-3 weeks so that the dentist can make sure that everything is both okay and on track. Finally when the desired results have been reached the aligner can be removed. As with all orthodontic treatment, it’s recommended that some type of retainer is worn after to prevent an orthodontic relapse.

If you’re seeking orthodontic treatment and feel that the Inman Aligner Manchester is for you, then why not book a consultation with us to discus how we can help. Aside from the Inman Aligner we also have a wide range of conventional and contemporary orthodontic treatments. These include clear view braces such as Manchester Invisalign, discreet ceramic braces, and a whole host of fast orthodontic ‘bracket and wiring style’ treatments such as C-fast, Secret Smiles, and Six Month Smiles. What Is The Fastest Orthodontic Treatment and Why Choose It

What Is The Fastest Orthodontic Treatment and Why Choose It

Traditionally orthodontic treatment is a long process which can take several years. Treatments such as Invisalign braces Manchester, although radically different, can still take 18 months or more to produce the desired results. But what if you want the fastest orthodontic treatment what do you choose?

At our Cheadle Hulme orthodontics practice we offer a wide range of orthodontic appliances to treat a wide variety of dental problems. As well as conventional braces we also have what are known as accelerated or fast brace systems. These are braces that are designed to straighten the teeth in a fraction of the time of more long-term appliances. In some cases results can be achieved in a matter of weeks or months, rather than years.

So who are accelerated orthodontic treatments for?

Before we answer this question, we really need to talk about how speedy braces work. The reality is that they work in exactly the same way as longer conventional treatments in that they’re designed to apply continual gentle force to move teeth into the correct position over a period of time. The difference is that

  • They only straighten the front and bottom 6 teeth that are visible when you talk or smile
  • Unlike long term dentures they can’t fix underlying or complex problems such as straightening the actual tooth root itself, or major bite issues

So back to the question….. who are accelerated orthodontics for?

In the main those people who have minor dental issues such as a slightly gapped or uneven smile, and who aren’t overly concerned with any underlying fixes, are the perfect candidates. These include people that have an important upcoming event and want to look their best, or those who simply want a quick fix solution.

So just how fast are the fastest orthodontic treatment?

Treatments such as C-fast, Secret Smile, and Six Month Smiles, can straighten the visible upper and lower teeth within 6 months. However there’s one form of treatment that can eclipse these. Where something like the Invisalign braces Manchester can take 2 years, the Inman Aligner takes on average 9-16 weeks.

So to recap…. If you have minor dental issues and are looking to aesthetically improve your smile fast, then speedy orthodontic treatment may well be the answer. However it won’t suit those with medium to major dental issues or those looking to fix underlying dental problems such as the straightening of the tooth root. Instead for these people there are some great long-term orthodontic treatments available that don’t necessarily entail sporting a mouth full of metal. Out of the fastest orthodontic treatment, the Inman Aligner is arguably the quickest, but it does depend upon the  degree of treatment needed.

Our Cheadle Hulme orthodontics practice is used to dealing with a wide variety of teeth problems ranging from slightly gapped or flared teeth to overcrowding and malocclusions. So if you’re not entirely happy with your smile, then come and pay us a visit. Contact us on 0161 660 1218 to book a free consultation with Dr Shi Karim and the team.

The Ins and Outs Of Invisible Braces Manchester

In previous blogs we’ve talked at length about Manchester clear braces and how they’re different from more conventional appliances, but today we want to focus more on the treatment process itself. So without further ado, let’s dive straight in and take a closer look…

The initial consultation

Commonly known as invisible braces, Manchester patients who are looking to have Invisalign treatment will usually undergo a series of processes and it starts with a consultation. The dentist will first of all discuss your situation in detail and ask you to fill in a smile assessment. This will determine whether Invisalign is the right treatment for you. This is also your opportunity to ask any questions about clear braces Manchester such as length of treatment, costs, what you can expect etc.

Customised plan

The next phase of treatment is a customised plan. This can be carried out as part of the initial consultation, but it’s normally done over several visits. Firstly a series of scans and x-rays are taken of the teeth and mouth, plus a series of impressions. From the images the dentist will be able to plot your teeth movements virtually, so that you can see exactly how your teeth will look after you’ve undergone treatment. It’s a kind of glimpse into the future of your perfect smile. Using this your dentist will work out a specific treatment plan.

Custom aligners

After a few weeks you’ll receive your Invisible braces. Manchester patients should note that because they are made of a clear BPA-free plastic, they can be very hard to spot when put down on a surface such as a counter top. Therefore always keep them stored in the container they come in. To wear them simply insert the first aligner over the teeth like a gum shield (your dentist will give you a demonstration). It needs to be worn for a minimum of 22 hours a day, only taking it out to eat, drink, and brush the teeth. It’s important to wear it for as long as you can because this will maximise the treatment. Any less time means that it will have a knock-on effect as you go through the process.  Typically each aligner should be changed for the next one in the series every two weeks and the good news is that because they’re virtually invisible, people won’t even know you’re wearing them.

Regular dental visits

During the process, you’ll have regular dental check ups to make sure that your clear braces Manchester are doing exactly what they should be doing and that everything is on schedule. It’s also a good chance for your dentist to keep an eye on problem areas such as plaque build up or potential gum disease issues.

Your new smile revealed.

Finally when the last aligner has been worn you’ll see your new smile for the first time. You may have to wear retainers to keep your teeth in their new position, but this is something you should ask your dentist about.

So there you have it, the step by step process on Invisible braces Manchester.  If you need adult orthodontic treatment and are interested in Invisalign then come and have a consultation with us. Here you can get all your questions and concerns answered leaving you to make a fully informed dental decision. The fact is that Manchester clear braces have the ability to restore your great looking smile and  also give you a much needed confidence boost, so contact us on 0161 660 1218 and get the ball rolling today.

Teeth Straightening Manchester – 7 Benefits of Straight Teeth

If you’ve recently visited the dentist you might have been told that you need orthodontic Manchester treatment. While it’s fair to say that wearing braces in Manchester can be a lengthy process, teeth straightening Manchester has multiple benefits, many of which are health related. With this in mind, let’s take a closer look at some of them.

Straighter teeth help to prevent major health issues

Did you know that having straighter teeth can reduce your chances of heart disease, a stroke, or diabetes? It’s true! Crooked teeth are difficult to clean and can harbour bacteria. If the bacteria isn’t treated or eradicated it can lead to serious conditions such as those listed above.

Straighter teeth means healthier gums

When teeth are straighter the gums fit more securely around the teeth. This creates a stronger defense barrier against the possibility of periodontal (severe gum) disease. Conversely when teeth are crooked or overcrowded they don’t sit perfectly against the gums and as a result the gums can be prone to attack from bacteria. Problem gums are normally identified by an inflamed/reddened appearance.

Straighter teeth prevents excess wear

When a patient suffers from crooked or overcrowded teeth it can lead to an inefficient chewing action causing excess wear to adjacent teeth. After undergoing a period of orthodontic Manchester treatment, straighter teeth means that proper bite function is restored.

Straighter teeth reduces the risk of accidents

Protruding or crooked teeth are often exposed making them far more likely to be chipped, cracked, or broken in the event of an accident.

Straighter teeth prevents TMJD problems

When teeth aren’t straight they place excess stress on the gums and bone that supports them. This can often led to a painful condition known as TMJD. Temporo-Mandibular Joint Disorder is the dysfunction of the muscles used in the chewing process, the symptoms of which are usually chronic headaches, neck pain, or face/jaw pain. Thankfully orthodontic treatment such as braces Manchester can straighten teeth, therefore easing the causes of TMJD and lessening any pain.

Teeth straightening Manchester improves overall dental health

Crooked teeth can be the catalyst that causes gum disease which can attack and undermine other healthy teeth if left untreated. Ultimately periodontal disease can cause bleeding gums and mouth sores and eventually lead to tooth loss.

Teeth straightening improves confidence and self-esteem

Mental health plays an important part in our overall health. A wide range of studies have shown that by having a great looking smile, it not only increases self confidence and boosts self esteem, but ultimately it can dramatically improve our mental health.

If you’d like to find out more about how orthodontic Manchester treatment can improve your overall health then contact Church Road Dental and Cosmetics. We offer a wide range of discreet teeth straightening Manchester treatments ranging from traditional braces Manchester, through to contemporary state-of-the-art Invisalign aligners. So call us today on 0161 660 1218 to book your free consultation.
